Reddam House was recently given four indigenous trees by Eskom to plant in the early learning school and junior preparatory playground.
Eskom also donated four trees to the ECS School in Nomzamo, which were planted last week.
Some staff from Eskom visited Reddam on Friday September 6, to share some information about trees.
Two interesting facts learnt from Bongani Mandla, Eskom zone manager, were: “Did you know that there are around 3.04 trillion trees on earth? However, 3.5 billion of
these trees are cut down every year.
“In South Africa, only 0.4% of our landmass is covered by natural forest. That’s only 500 000ha.”
Mr Mandla encouraged the pupils to plant trees because “investing in green spaces can help transform cities into more sustainable, resilient, healthy, equitable and pleasant places to live.”
