The winners of the Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM), sixth annual Mayoral Tourism Awards were announced in the Wellington Town Hall last week.
These awards celebrate the achievements of tourism businesses in the Cape Winelands tourism industry, showcasing outstanding performers, products and service excellence.
The judging panel for the mayoral tourism awards consisted of officials from the CWDM and Wesgro.
Different criteria apply for each of the seven categories, and each entity was judged by a written submission including all supporting documentation as well as a presentation delivered by nominees to the panel of judges.
Stellenbosch 360 won Best Visitor’s Information and Services (LTA) of the year, and Montagu-Ashton Tourism was the runner-up.
Annemarie Ferns, chief executive officer of Stellenbosch 360, said: “Stellenbosch 360 was acknowledged for exceptional innovation in respect of marketing and specifically our global Stellenbosch Experience Campaign.
“The consistent annual increase in the number of visitors to our visitor’s center, development projects such as “Dine with the Locals” and the Strawberry Festival in Jamestown, as well as this year’s USWoordfees production, the Kayamandi Food, Wine and Art Experience, were also commended.
“Furthermore, our pioneering initiative to position Stellenbosch as a “Living Conference and Events Centre” was considered outstanding,” she added.
