Blaauw and Partners Biokinetics was started in Somerset West in 1995 by Professor Bokkie Blaauw and his wife, Becky Blaauw, and Becky always had the dream of building a practice that would accommodate all types of patients with the need to exercise.
This year, the dream, finally became a reality, with the completion of their new building and the addition of their new hydro-therapy pool.
Bolander attended the launch event, along with other guests and medical practioners.
This pool was specifically built with rehabilitation in mind, and is designed to accommodate all types of patients, from young to old.
Those who benefit most from hydrotherapy are people with conditions such as osteo-arthritis, Parkinsons, back conditions, cardiac, stroke, weight loss, fibromyalgia and auto-immune diseases.
The pool is also a starting point after major surgery, says Becky. “The heated pool relaxes the muscles, places little stress on the joints and allows for a safe environment for the patient to exercise.”
They offer three types of water-based exercises: one-on-one sessions, water aerobics and watsu therapy. The biokineticians also offers land-based exercises to strengthen specific muscle groups.
This is accompanied by state- of-the-art equipment such as an isokinetic machine and the Chattanooga (muscle stimulation training).
“We would like to thank our dedicated and loyal staff, all the patients and the health care professionals that have supported us over the years. Without them, the dream could not have become a reality,” says Becky.
