A “tea dance” was held in the Green Room of the Playhouse Theatre just before Christmas. The Fa la la trio comprising piano accompanist and arranger Felicity Lolliot, with vocal soloists Anita Glenister and Lynn Merry, entertained with solo and duet items and led community singing with songs from WW1 through to the 1940s.
Their programme included moments of ballroom dancing from the floor, which proved to be popular and brought back great memories of younger days. The belle of the ball was 103-year-old Vera Potter from Vonke Huis. Her close friend Peggy Gadd-Claxton, also from Vonke, was heard to say that it was the best afternoon she had enjoyed in many years. Volunteers helped serve delicious home-made refreshments to the 70 folk who attended.
Several more afternoon tea dances with entertainment are planned for 2019; the first in March, with a 1950s theme; and the next in May moving into the 1960s. Start practicing your jives, lindy hops and twists now. For more information, contact events@theplayhouse.org.za
