The Friends of Paaredevlei Dam will host their AGM on Tuesday March 5, from 6pm to 7.30pm, at the Lionel Smit art studio, in the historic precinct of Paardevlei, at 2 Gardner Williams Avenue. The Friends are a community organisation that was started in 2016, to create awareness of this beautiful gem nestled within the Helderberg basin. There is a circular walk around the water body which is open to all. Dog walkers are welcome, provided all dogs are leashed, and dog poo is picked up. Bird life has declined recently due to the persistent drought, but there are still numerous bird species to observe and enjoy, as well as beautiful views of both the Hottentot Holland and Helderberg mountains. Among other items to be discussed, is the recently-abandoned flamingo chicks WESSA (The Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa) has brought to the Friends’ attention.
