■ Jenny Barnard took this photograph of a pair of African Black Oystercatchers early one morning, sharing a small oyster patch at the far end of the Strand beach near the old fence line. “The tide was low, allowing me to walk in closer to get the shot. The wet jeans were worth it… They are a breeding pair, staying close together while they searched for breakfast for their youngster. The bird on the right looks like a shadow of the one on the left (if it wasn’t for the few ruffled feathers), creating a sort of optical illusion.”
