Luna Paige brings fans a one-night-only-show at this year’s Toyota Woordfees. Her show, Saam (All)een, includes brand-new songs that toy with the theme of aloneness. She explores the highs and the lows of being alone, the things we do to avoid being alone and shares inspirational songs about the value of being alone once in a while.
She also finds inspiration in poems by renowned poets and reworks these poems into beautiful pieces of music. She is joined on stage by a team of exemplary musicians – familiar faces at the Woordfees – Frank Freeman on guitar, Schalk Joubert on bass and drummer Jonno Sweetman.
The highlight of the show promises to be the long-awaited collaboration between Luna Paige, composer and choir arranger Franco Prinsloo, and the Zolani Youth Choir. Ms Paige met the choir leader Mr Odwa Mvunga many years ago.
After meeting and sharing the stage with Franco Prinsloo at Woordfees 2022, and reconnecting with the Zolani Youth Choir at the Montagu Art Deco Festival earlier this year (2023) – she decided the time was right to invite this community youth choir to join her on stage – and invited Franco to arrange the music for the choir.
“I would like to inspire people with these beautiful songs and performances. I want to show that we are together in our aloneness, that we can motivate each other to use our alone time to practice staying true to ourselves, to keep growing and to learn to accept and love ourselves – so we can invite healthy and meaningful relationships into our lives.”
The show is on Sunday October 8 at 8.30pm at the Drostdy Theatre, Stellenbosch. Tickets for Saam (All)een cost R185 per person and can be purchased online through Quicket.
