■ Ten rhythmic gymnasts and six artistic gymnasts from the Van der Stel Gymnastics Club qualified for the Western Cape Team to compete at the South African Gym Games. The games will be taking place from Friday September 30 to Saturday October 8, in Cape Town.
During the Western Cape Provincial Trials, Sophie Puchert came second overall in artistic gymnastics, and Jessica Botha come third. Megan Vermeulen came first in tumbling and Franki Smith second, also in tumbling. One of the Van der Stel coaches, Leone Vester, also came first in artistic gymnastics, as part of the Maties team.
Nikola Muller came first in rhythmic gymnastics, Nadia Lombard came second and Anna-Christina Kriel, Nelia Swanepoel and Nienke Burger come third. The Hoop group, consisting of Micah Davids, Kamilla Haasbroek, Lorre Venter and Lilia Miller, took a second place.
