Kira triumphs Down Under

■ Somerset College Grade 11 pupil, Kira Bester, pictured left, won a gold medal in the simulated emergency response competition (SERC) on the first day of the 2018 World Lifesaving Championship in Adelaide, Australia. Kira, a member of the Lifesaving South Africa Youth Team, came 5th in the world in the kneeboard event. Her team came 3rd in what is known as Taplin (one swimmer, one kneeboarder and one surf skier), where Kira did the kneeboard leg. She came11th in the surf ski individual event.
