Award-winning violinist Tim Kliphuis is a legend in the gypsy world, and will be performing at Woordfees in Stellenbosch, tonight, Wednesday March 8, at 6pm.
His trio with guitarist Nigel Clark and double bass player Roy Percy, will perform an exciting musical blend of jazz, classical and folk music by Gershwin, Copland, Grappelli, Ellington, Reinhardt and many more.
In their concerts, the Tim Kliphuis Trio use a technique they call “Total Music”, an allusion to the “total football” of the legendary Dutch school, where each player can take over the role of any other player.
In any part of the concert, the three musicians will be alternately leading and accompanying, making the resulting band sound a combination of all three personalities.
The performance takes place in the Fismer Hall at Stellenbosch University.
Tickets cost R130, and R100 for students and pensioners, and are available through Computicket.
Prices at the door are R150 and R110.
