City awards the top Nature Challenge participants

Julia Wood, the Citys biodiversity manager manager; Marian Nieuwoudt, mayoral committee member for spatial planning and environment; Helen Pickering, who found and recorded the most species during the challenge; Magriet Brink, the participant who made and recorded the most observations; and Dr Razeena Omar, CEO of CapeNature.

Cape Town was the official winner in two categories in the 2019 City Nature Challenge.This international competition saw over 150 cities from around the world compete to see who could make the most observations of nature, find the most species, and engage the most people. The City celebrated this achievement on Monday June 10, by awarding the participants, both from Somerset West, whose efforts during the challenge played a great role in achieving these accolades.
