Journalist, publisher, editor and author, Melinda Ferguson, is the guest speaker at Mensa Winelands’ monthly speaker evening, tomorrow, Thursday June 16, at 7.15pm.
Melinda excelled academically in high school and graduated from UCT’s Drama School in the late 1980s.
She embarked on a promising career in performing and directing, but by 1999 she had lost everything – including her two sons, her marriage and her home – having developed a devastating heroin and crack cocaine addiction.
A challenging period of recovery followed, during which she wrote the first of three memoirs, Smacked, which hit the best-seller lists in its first month of release and sold out throughout South Africa.
Melinda was nominated as a finalist in the Mondi Awards (SA’s top journalism awards) and, in 2001, was a nominee in “The Revlon Women of Courage” competition.
An entertaining and inspiring speaker, Melinda will share the wisdom and trials of recovery, not only from drug addiction, but from her R3.2 million crash in the brand new Ferrari California she was test-driving in 2013 for her motoring column.
If you would like to attend the meeting as a guest, email mensa winelands@gmail.com, or SMS 083 462 9585.
Entry is free; a cash bar will be available.
