B Tromp, chairman: Lourens River Protec-ted Area Management Committee
The Lourens River has been polluted from a storm water pipe below hillcrest road Radloff Park, Somerset West.
Plastic and bottles were seen, and the whole river is opaque.
This has occurred before on at least two occasions from the stormwater outlet below Riverside Park about 600 meters upstream, and is far too big to come from a private household.
Are the filters at the nearby reservoir being cleaned? The source should be traced immediately and preventive action taken.
Ed’s reply: The city has said it was due to a burst water pipe, eroding clay material.
