The Helderberg Society for the Aged (HSFA) will be hosting its annual Big Walk on Saturday October 5, where residents of the HSFA, their family, staff and the community get together for a fun-filled day.
The HSFA is a registered non-profit organisation, which has been caring for the elderly in the Helderberg region, since 1958.
It has four pillars of care: frail care facilities, several assisted living units, a home-based care service, and several independent living accommodation units.
Entry costs R50 for adults, R20 for children, and R10 for dogs on leash. The community can also sponsor a resident with a ticket to take part.
The theme for the day is “Carnival” and there will be prizes for “Best dressed” and other categories like “Best dressed dog”. All participants will receive a medal as well as a goodie bag.
Volunteers are also encouraged to help out to accompany the residents. This year a 105-year-old resident will be taking part in this 2.5km walk.
Live music, line dancing, drumming, a jumping castle and face-painting for children are provided, and eats and drinks will be on sale. In addition, there will be various craft market stalls with crafters items.
Twelve of these crafters are residents selling their own handiwork to augment their income. Registration starts at 6.30am and the walk starts at 8am.
Book at Quicket or directly from the HSFA reception at Vonke House, 121 Lourensford Road, Somerset West. Tickets will also be available on the day.

As the HSFA’s Big Walk is their annual fund-raising event their goal this year is to raise R50 000.
Donation points will be available on the day for anyone wanting to help the HSFA to reach its goal. Donations can also be made on Quicket when buying tickets.
