■ The weekend standby crew at Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS) Jonkershoek Firebase visited a Voortrekker group at the Voortrekker Wemmershoek campground last Saturday. The crew explained what the VWS does and how it fights wildland fires, and presented a fire-awareness lecture. A highlight of the event was the foam party, pictured, complements of Cape Winelands Fire and Rescue, aided by VWS crew members Carlo Hill and Marius Janse van Rensburg, with a couple of hoses, supplying a cooling shower. All water used came from non-potable sources.
