More than 190 visitors attended the the annual Alpaca Day celebrations at Vicuna Alpaca Stud on High Riding Country Estate in Somerset West on Sunday April 30. Tula, the brown cria – baby alpaca – was the hit of the day, with people fawning over her, wanting to take her home. Apart from being able to interact with the alpacas, visitors could chat to breeders who shared information and their passion for farming with alpacas, and answering many questions. Videos provided further insight into the various aspects of alpaca farming, including the role of guarding livestock from predators. Visitors were able to observe and interact with alpacas in a farm setting, and garments made from alpaca wool were on display.
