The Stellenbosch on Stage series will feature Spoegwolf on Saturday August 29, and the University of Stellenbosch Alumni Concert featuring the likes of Laurika Rauch, Stuart Taylor, Sunday Kelechi, Jan Braai and the renowned Stellenbosch University Choir on Heritage Day, Thursday September 24.
Tickets for the shows, broadcast live to your device wherever you are, are now available from Computicket and each comes with a complimentary R100 Support Stellenbosch SnapScan voucher, redeemable at participating restaurants and shops in this historic town.
Stellenbosch on Stage was established as a campaign of solidarity and unity in July and this novel initiative now also provides recovery support to the City of Oak’s battered economy due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Stellenbosch is a town that stands together. We’ve seen that more than ever during this pandemic,” says Visit Stellenbosch CEO, Jeanneret Momberg. “Now, we take that solidarity a step further by supporting local business through an innovative Support Stellenbosch rewards campaign that will have the dual goal of stimulating our tourism economy and incentivising our guests to love where they live and experience local entertainment.”
“First of its kind in South Africa, Support Stellenbosch is a truly unique and exciting campaign, supported by our partners Stellenbosch Municipality, Stellenbosch University and Wesgro. We can be proud that our town is showing such leadership and innovation,” says Jeanneret.
Afrikaans Rock outfit, Spoegwolf, hits the stage at 7pm on Saturday August 29 for a thought-provoking listening experience. With their meaningful lyrics and rich sound, it challenges and delights anyone who listens to their music. This alternative band is made up of brothers, Danie and Moskou du Toit – who also have a Stellenbosch restaurant, Drum – and Chris von Wielligh and Albert van der Merwe.
Continuing along the thread of collaboration, this Stellenbosch on Stage performance is made possible by the support of Eendracht Hotel and Apartments, Stellenbosch Wine Routes and Taste Stellenbosch, each representing one of the main tourism sectors of Stellenbosch.
“We are extremely proud to be part of the Stellenbosch on Stage initiative. We believe that it is within our collective power to turn the hope of a united and prosperous Stellenbosch Tourism sector into a living reality that will bring benefit to many people,” shares Daniel Lutz, owner of Eendracht Hotel and Apartments, in the heart of Stellenbosch.
For the University of Stellenbosch Alumni Concert at 7pm on Thursday September 24, viewers can look forward to a selection of hits and all-round entertainment that have made these South African icons top of their game.
Experience a musical performance by Laurika Rauch, who will be joined by cellist Sunday Kelechi, whilst comedian Stuart Taylor will have everyone in stitches with his one of a kind humour.
The Stellenbosch University Choir, conducted by André van der Merwe, will also join the screen and to mark what is famous colloquially as National Braai Day, Jan Braai will tune in with his tongs to share some tips of his favourite pastime. This exclusive event will be presented in collaboration with Stellenbosch University’s Development and Alumni Relations.
Tickets for each concert cost R130 and available at Computicket. The concerts will remain available for seven days.
Stellenbosch on Stage wines – compiled to support local enterprises – are also available for order, with delivery taking place as soon as regulations allow.
These cases of Proudly Stellenbosch wine are available in three variations: exclusively white wine at R670/case; exclusively red at R770/case and mixed cases at R720/case.
