The Helderberg Hospice will be hosting an afternoon of classical music on Sunday October 16, at the United Church, Somerset West, at 3pm. Louise Senekal, a soprano singer originally from Pretoria, is one of the performers. Louise studied music at the University of Pretoria, and her major subjects were singing and piano, which she passed with distinctions.
After receiving the prestigious Mimi Coertse scholarship from the University of Pretoria, Louise studied under Mary Hittorf, Mimi’s singing lecturer in Vienna.
Louise moved to Somerset West last year from Pretoria, where she did the vocal training for students who had music as a subject at Afrikaans Meisies Hoër and Menlo Park High. She has also taught music privately, giving singing and piano lessons from her studio where students are prepared for exams, participating in eisteddfods, competitions and concerts.
She has also been selected as a member of the adjudicating panel at exams and competitions. Louise has been honoured by ATKV for her years of contribution to the music industry, as well as the promotion of Afrikaans music.
She is a professional singer in light classical music, performs regularly, and is available for concerts and events at churches and retirement homes.
Tickets cost R85, including afternoon tea, and are available at Helderberg Hospice or the hospice shops in Somerset West and Strand.
