The Somerset College Grade 10 pupils go on a camping trip during September each year, as part of the school’s outdoor education programme. The camp is organised and managed by the school staff, but a large portion of the preparation is done by the pupils. They are given a budget and are required to set up a meal plan for each of the eight groups. They must buy the food and provide all necessary equipment. Although challenging, this teaches them skills that they otherwise might never acquire. Their activities include an overnight hike up the Sneeuberg and swimming in the mountain streams, team-building exercises, smaller hikes, community service, some braais and stargazing. The Cederberg camp is a great learning experience for all with a mixture of fun, adventures and bonding
