■ A big shout out to all the Eco-Rangers who joined forces to collect a huge pile of litter from the Strand Beach last week, and were blessed with lovely weather for the event. The Genets collected seven bags full, and the Caracal and Leopards collected at least 15 bags full. A few members of the public went over to the group to say how pleased they were to see the youngsters making such a huge effort to clean up the beach. A special mention goes to the tiny Dassie group, who did a clean up at the Helderberg Nature Reserve, and collected four shopping bags full of litter between Pete’s Pond and Spurwing Dam. They might only be three and four years old, and the group is only three strong, but they proved to be excellent litter collectors. They found many balloon fragments, as well as tiny pieces of plastic confetti stuck in the lawns, and two soiled diapers dumped in the reserve.
