David Harrison,
Somerset West
Last week, just as the sun set, an elderly lady’s car stalled at the intersection of Mountain and Lourensford roads.
Over the next two hours, the drivers of 21 cars stopped to ask whether they could be of assistance. What a magnificent demonstration of community spirit.
Some of the drivers of the cars that stopped were white, others black – and judging by the cars, some rich and others much poorer. All left grinning when told their “number” – where they fitted in the order of people who had taken the trouble to stop.
And I was left greatly encouraged by the thought that most of the people of Somerset West care about each other.
