David Muller, Somerset West
I might have missed it, but I don’t recall reading much comment about the new cycling lanes in Gordon Road and other Somerset West streets.
I am all for measures to ensure cyclists safety, but isn’t the special rubber surface and large cats eyes a bit over the top for the few cyclists we see using these specific roads?
It seems someone got a very nice contract with the City of Cape Town. Already some “repairs” have taken place on some parts of the “special” surface.
What is happening now, especially in the morning rush hour, is that pedestrians are using the new “lane” when there is a perfectly good pavement on the opposite side of the road. So it is sometimes blocked for cyclists anyway.
Perhaps the City should have spent money on more pressing needs.
