State hospitals in the Cape Metropole have reported the birth of at least 127 babies on New Year’s Day, on Friday January 1, 2021.
A total of 64 boys and 63 girls were born starting with a boy, was born at 00.47 at Mowbray Maternity Hospital, weighing 3,24 kg and 48 cm in length, to mother Siphosethu Seti.
The second was a girl born at Karl Bremer at 01.26, weighing 2.14 kg and 48 cm in length, to mother Esethu Tyali.
The third baby was a boy born at 01.53 at Tygerberg Hospital, weighing 2,86 kg, and 48 cm in length to mother Belinda Takawira.
Only one set of twins, two girls, were born at Tygerberg Hospital.
Provincial authorities have also applauded medical staff on the safe delivery of all the new arrivals on New Year’s Day.
The Western Cape government expects that more New Year’s Day births may be reported from other parts of the province and acknowledges that the total number of births is subject to change.
