The Hottentots Holland Dramatic Society is auditioning for two productions on Sunday April 10.
Red Riding Hood is a children’s favorite that will go on in July during the last week of the school holiday to warm up the winter blues. The story revolves around a girl called Little Red Riding Hood. In the Grimms’ and Perrault’s versions of the tale, she is named after the redhooded cape/cloak that she wears.
The girl walks through the woods to deliver food to her sickly grandmother (wine and cake depending on the translation). In the Grimms’ version, she had the order from her mother to stay strictly on the path.
Three shows a day in the last week of the holidays will keep the cast busy and the audience entertained. There are a large variety of fun parts for singers, actors and dancers age seven to adult. To audition you need to arrive at the Playhouse, at 2pm, on Sunday April 10.
For a lead role you will be asked to read a short piece and sing part of any musical song of your choice. Those wishing to be supporting or dance roles will be grouped and taught a piece and selected by directors Darryl Spijkers and Bryoni Currin. Rehearsals will be held at the Playhouse during the school holiday.
Of Mice and Men is a classic play that had its world premiere circa October 1937 by the San Francisco Theatre Union.
The play premiered on Broadway at the Music Box Theatre on November 23, 1937, and closed in May 1938 after 207 performances.
There have been several revivals, with another Broadway revival in 2014, directed by Anna D Shapiro with James Franco (George), Chris O’ Dowd (Lennie) and Leighton Meester (Curley’s Wife). The John Steinbeck drama seeks a cast of nine men and one woman.
Dads, boyfriends and brothers are encouraged to audition for this moving piece that will show at the end of July and first week of August. Produced in association with Carnivals of the Heart, this play is under the direction of award-winning director and chairman, Darryl Spijkers.
To audition, arrive at the Playhouse, at 7pm, on Sunday April 10.
You do not need to prepare anything specific but will be asked to read in an American accent. If you have any monologue to perform, it is welcomed.
