The pupils from the Aitsa! After Care Centre are eagerly counting down the days to the 2019 Savanna Origin of Trails MTB Experience and Trail Run that takes place at Blaauwklippen wine estate on Saturday November 30 and Sunday December 1.
“Founded in 2014, the Aitsa! After Care Centre strives to expose children to fun activities and programs in an alternative home environment where they feel loved and special,” says Marietjie Steyn, Aitsa! After Care Centre founder/director.
“It’s an absolute honour to once again be an official charity of the Origin of Trails MTB Experience and Trail Run.
“It’s a popular event that is well organised and features absolutely beautiful routes. We feel that the riders understand the importance of conserving the environment and supporting communities.
“The organisers have given our children 17 entries in the fun ride on Saturday and two entries in the trail run on Sunday. Each child will receive a free event T-shirt, which will mean the world to them.
“We are really looking forward to the new experience at Blaauwklippen Wine Estate,” says Ms Steyn. “The children cannot wait to discover the new paths on their mountain bikes. The event is full of adventure and excitement. It helps us to give hope and passion to children. It gets them to look beyond their circumstances and dream of a better life. Sport and an event like this gets the adrenaline pumping.
“The children are filled with excitement, keeping them off of the streets and busy with productive positive experiences. The Origin of Trails truly is a yearly highlight for our children. We will be present at race pack collection, where we will be selling temporary Aitsa! tattoos to wear on race day. We cannot wait to be part of the experience.”
Riders wanting to support the Aitsa! After Care Centre can do so by either making a donation when entering the event, or by supporting their “sponsor a child programme” for R300 a month.
