The Endler Concert Series celebrates the Youth Concerto Festival, on Saturday September 21, at 8pm in the Endler Hall, Stellenbosch. Young soloists who successfully auditioned to perform at this festival will play alongside the University of Stellenbosch Symphony Orchestra (USSO), under the baton of Professor Corvin Matei, who was the music director and permanent conductor of USSO from 2006 until his retirement in 2018. The soloists, pictured, are Jean Botha, bassoon; Daniel Brodie, piano; Féroll-Jon Davids, clarinet;, Lourens Fick, piano; Lara Havenga. trumpet); Emilio Lorenzo, marimba; Josie McClure, saxophone; Jana van Dyk and Chanté van der Westhuizen, voice; and Cameron Williams, clarinet. The programme includes one movement each from Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto, Spohr’s Clarinet Concerto No. 1, Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto, and Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Full works to be performed include: Delibes’ Flower Duet from Lakme, Bela Kovats’ Sholem alekhem, rov Feidman! for clarinet, and Prokofiev’s 1st Piano Concerto. The programme also includes works by South African composers, with Peter Klatzow’s Concerto for Marimba and String Orchestra and Hendrik Hofmeyr’s Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra.
