Sunday October 21 saw more than a hundred musicians participating in the annual Classical Sounds choir- and orchestra production held at Helderberg Dutch Reformed Church in Somerset West.
“The feedback we receive after our concerts is so appreciative, it motivates us to keep on performing”, says Yolanda Botha, founder and music director of Classical Sounds.
“People travel from all over to attend our events and seem to really enjoy the music and the atmosphere. All Classical Sounds concerts are free of charge and young and old (who might not be able to afford expensive tickets for music shows) come to bask in the glow of live performed music.”
The idea behind the concerts is not only to create a performing platform for young musicians and encourage others to take up their instruments once again, but to create an opportunity for entire families to attend a classical concert together: not having to worry about costs or with the perfect concert manners.
It is Ms Botha’s dream that this event become even more of a community venture, expanding performers to including instrumentalists and singers from the whole Boland area. All are welcome: classically trained musicians to students who have just started to master their instrument. Ms Botha’s motto has always been: “the more the merrier” and arranges music to accommodate all levels of playing.
If you are a singer or instrumentalist who would love to dust off a long-lost talent, or a student burning for an opportunity to make music with fellow musicians and gain some ensemble experience, Classical Sounds is the place for you.
