Thys & Trix – Bouwer Bosch and Leandie Du Randt Bosch – are siblings and eager yet helpless police officers. Their constant feud results in their expulsion after it causes yet another embarrassment for the police service. Detective Solomons (Brendon Daniels) is investigating the activities of a crime syndicate in an exclusive golf estate outside Mossel Bay.
Due to their “vanilla” appearance, Thys and Trix are singled out for the first time as the most competent team to lead an investigation. However, the fact that they must pretend to be a married couple to make the investigation credible, complicates the situation.
Soon they have an entire list of suspects compiled of their neighbours. Stellenbosch-born South African actress Dorette Potgieter, plays
the role of Chandré Janse van Rensburg, who together with her husband, André, are considered the neighbourhood’s alpha couple.
“My role in Thys & Trix came somewhat as a surprise when I really needed some work. I wasn’t the original first choice for the role and the dress designed for the actress who had to pull out at the last minute, was about two sizes smaller than me, but in show business we all know ‘the show must go on’,” says Dorette. “I felt like a stuffed Oscar, but that golden dress made many heads turn, even though I felt like mutton dressed as lamb.”
“I was fortunate and grateful for the opportunity to star in the film; it granted me some good laughs with a few fellow actors and offered a lovely holiday away from reality. Very few actors in South Africa are really able to make a living and when the gift arrives to work, we are just to grateful to do what we love most,” says Dorette.
