Masikhule, an NPO in the Helderberg that trains women from marginalised communities to be Early Childhood Development (ECD) educators, is celebrating Mandela Day 2021 with their annual Cast On 4 Kids campaign.
This year the theme is Books, Beanies and Blankets.
Léanne Keet, the founder, said: “Although we are going to miss our wonderful get-together again due to Covid-19, we are still looking forward to everyone’s contributions, as distributing them brings such joy to the children in the disadvantaged communities of the Helderberg.”
This year Cast On 4 Kids is not only catering for those who are keen on knitting and crocheting, but to everyone who wants to make a difference.
Masikhule will be collecting donations to bulk buy as many lovely age- and language-appropriate books as possible from Book Dash. Books are just R20 each and donations can be made to their bank account (with your name and “Books” as reference).
Everyone who would like to donate their lovingly-created beanies (for children under five years old) and blankets is requested to drop them off with the Masikhule team, on Monday July 19, at Sage & Thyme restaurant on Caledon Street, Somerset West (who are kindly hosting the collection again this year), between 10.30am and 3pm.
