Helderberg Village, in Somerset West, held The Village Duck Race on Sunday, to raise funds for projects, and to get the Villagers out in the sun for some fun, after the long isolation from friends and families.

As the ducks drifted down the river, onlookers and competitors were allowed to nudge them along if they got stuck, with the help of fishing poles, sticks or pool noodles.

The Moddergat Stream passes through the village for about 1km, and 300 numbered yellow plastic ducks were released into the stream. It was a race to the finish line, with lots of laughter and some prodding to facilitate progress... There were prizes for Best-Decorated Duck or Spring Hat, and food and art stalls. The village choir kicked off the festivities. Many grandchildren were at the event.
