Strand Nippers competed at the Western Province championships, their final local competition at Clifton beach on Saturday March 2 and Sunday March 3, finishing in overall fourth place, with Llandudno, Fish Hoek and Clifton ending ahead of them.
Thirteen clubs competed at this event, with the Strand Nippers returning home with 25 medals.
In the under-14 age group, Jenna Boettger won a bronze medal in both the girls’ Iron Nipper and run-swim-run events.
Ansty van Romburgh ended in second place in the beach flags event, and in third place in the beach run event in the under-13 age group, with Christian Davis taking second place in the boys’ under-13 run-swim-run event.
The Strand under-11 and under-12 team finished in overall third place at the championships.
Matthew van Romburgh won silver medals for the under-11 beach flags, beach sprints and run-swim-run events and finished third in the beach run event.
Ashley Hingeston, also under-11, won the girls’ beach run event, finished second in the beach flags and run-swim-run events, and won a bronze medal in the surf swim event.
Cameron Davies won a bronze medal in the under-11 beach flags event and Liam Clarke won silver medals for the under-12 beach run and run-swim-run events, and got a bronze medal in the beach sprint event.
Aiden Laubser won the run-swim-run and surf swim events and finished third in the body board race.
Ananabelle Hamel and Zoe Beresford each won a bronze medal in their respective under-12 beach flags and beach sprints events.
