Strand Lifesaving Club competed at a senior and junior surf competition, which was held at Minerton Beach on Saturday February 9.
Strand ended in an overall sixth place, with some outstanding results from the Strand lifeguards.
Bartho Visser, newcomer in the under-19 age group, ended in second place for the surfski event, with Jess Mc Ilroy ending in third place for the surfswim event for this age group.
Taylor Yates won the flags event for Strand, with Mila Watson coming third in the surfski event for the under-17 age group.
The Strand female junior taplin team, consisting of Jess Mc Ilroy, Zanlie Visser, Mila Watson and Taylor Yates, ended in third place, doing a board, ski, swim and run leg.
Rebeca Carter-Smith came third in the open surfswim event, with Megan Kreft taking second place in the open flags event.
Kira Bester won both the surfski and board events for the open and under-17 age groups.
Strand lifeguards Rebecca Carter-Smith (HP), Taylor Yates (HP), and Megan Kreft (HP) have been included in the Western Cape high performance squad, and Clayton Barclay-Hogan, Cyle Fredricks, Lauren Robb and Mia Kelbrick have been included in the Western Cape academy squad.
Strand Lifesaving will be hosting the junior and senior Western Cape Surf Lifesaving Championships on Saturday February 23 and Sunday February 24. The first events start at 11am on Saturday, with the competition kicking off at 8am on the Sunday.
