SASHOC National Week
Hockey U13 Inter-Provincial Tournament
The recent SASHOC national hockey series was the hunting ground for players who matched the criteria for inclusion in the team that would represent Western Province at the SASHOC National Week.
Skill, although of prime importance, is not the only quality essential to securing a place on the team.
Each player chosen to represent Western Province brought his own remarkable measure of every imaginable and essential trait of excellence in sportsmanship to the team.
Western Province under-13 Captain, Nathan Phillips (from Beaumont Primary School in Somerset West), is a dedicated young sportsman and exudes confidence and passion for his sport.
Team manager, Nigel Ranks, had this to say about him:” Nathan has been an incredible leader for his team.
“When we, as coaches, discussed who would lead the team at the Inter-Provincial Tournament, we collectively decided that Nathan was the person to lead the WP under-13A Boys team.
“Words like calm, respectable, good-hearted, and kind, were the driving force behind our decision. We were treated to exactly that at IPT.
“Nathan led his team both on and off the astro field, scoring a whopping 13 goals and celebrating each one in an iconic way. He made sure his team was crowned as the IPT Champs for 2024.
“I’m incredibly proud of Nathan; he kept his feet on the ground and remained humble despite his incredible achievement as the Top Goal Scorer for 2024 at the Hockey IPT .”
Western Province were unbeaten in the tournament, capturing gold for the second year running. The Western Province girls team also brought the trophy home.
