Daniel von der Heyden of Somerset West won the under-12 long jump at the South African Primary Schools Athletics Championships which were held in Germiston, Gauteng last month. He won the gold medal with a jump of 5.45m. This jump was 5cm short of the SA record, which has stood since 2001. He managed to break the record in an earlier attempt, but had unfortunately marginally overstepped the fault line, and hence the jump was disallowed. Â
