Five young Boland musicians recently made it through the audition round of the SAMRO Hubert van der Spuy National Music Competition to the finals.
Violinists Danielle Kock, 12, and Emma Steenkamp, 10, both of Somerset West and pianists Madison le Roux, 10, of Franschhoek, Ga-Young Moon,12, of Stellenbosch and Zi Ning “Mike” Wang, 10, of Strand will compete with 41 other finalists from around the country, in the Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium in Parow from Monday September 25 to Friday September 29 for top honours.
The 29-year-old competition affords talented young musicians, primary school pupils up to the age of 13, the opportunity to learn from one another in a competition environment and to compete on a national level.
Sponsored mainly by the SAMRO Foundation and hosted by South African Society of Music Teachers Tygerberg branch, the competition has a community outreach programme whereby applicants without the means, enter the competition for free, with their flights and accommodation costs also covered, should they reach the competition finals in September.
The public is invited to attend all competition rounds. Entry during the first four days of the competition is free.
