The Anna Foundation is teaming up with cycling champion, Linus van Onselen, to ride the FNB Wines 2 Whales mountain biking event, that kicks off on Friday October 25. Van Onselen, a Stellenbosch resident, has a list of track, road and mountain bike accolades that precede him; including former South African record holder for track (40km), as well as the cyclist with the most sub-3 hour finishes in the Cape Town Cycle Tour (he has 28) and UCI Masters World Champion in XCO and Marathon discipline in the 60-64 year category (2013). Participating in the Shiraz event, from Friday November 1 to Sunday November 3, Van Onselen will be pairing up with The Anna Foundation’s own Pierre-Henri Olivier, an ex-national South African racer. The formidable team will ride to raise awareness and funds for the organisation’s educational and social after school programmes that operate throughout the Western Cape and serve over 700 school-going children living on farms or in rural areas. As an official charity of FNB Wines 2 Whales, The Anna Foundation will have a stand at the race village on Oak Valley Wine Estate for the full duration of the event, entertaining younger spectators with free games, activities and face painting. The foundation will also be raffling off a cycling jersey signed by Van Onselen. The Shiraz event will cover 191km over the three-day period and the duo aims to raise R100 per kilometre.
