Ladies lunch club

Expressive art
An exhibition of expressive and emotional paintings by Marusa Mason, titled A Living Wave, explores a journey of healing and celebration of new life, and will be opening at Somerset Decor Centre, 15 Jigger Avenue (entrance to Somerset Sport), on Friday May 31, at 6.30pm. Violin recital

Opera fundraiser
The AGL Opera project, Symphony of Prayers, a fundraising initiative launched in 2018, brings together classically-trained musicians who wish to make a positive difference in local communities. Singers and instrumentalists come together to present a live music concert of sacred classical repertoire, and all perform free of charge to raise funds through ticket sales. Helderberg DRC, in conjunction with Classical Sounds, are hosting AGL Opera’s Symphony of Prayers on Sunday June 2, at 4pm, in the church building. Tickets are available from Computicket at R100. The programme includes classics such as The Holy City, Halleluja from Handel, Panis Angelicus and many more. Funds raised will go towards the Paarl Community Development Project which focuses on the Faure, Firgrove, Croydon, Raithby and Bright Valley area communities, as well as four play schools in the Macassar area that are linked to the Child Development Program. Somerset West Neighbourhood Watch (SWNW) is holding a recycling e-waste and scrap metal drive, on Saturday June 8, from 7.30am to 12.30pm, at the gravel parking area opposite the Somerset West police station. Book launch
Somerset West novelists, Paul English and Chris Hall, both have new novels published this autumn and are they throwing a book launch party at Chelsea Café @ Gallery 91, 91 Andries Pretorius Street, on Friday May 31, from 5.30pm to 7pm. The event will include a Q&A session with the authors, a prize draw and a selection of book-related giveaway items. Paul and Chris’s back catalogue novels will also be for sale, and a range of limited edition prints of the artwork created for Chris’s novel by her artist husband, Cliff Davies. Hospice bridge drive
The Bridge4Hospice charity bridge drive will be held on Monday June 10, at 10am, at Erinvale Golf Club, followed by a light lunch. There will be a duplicate bridge tournament as well as a room for social bridge. Duplicate players should organise a partner. Social/rubber bridge players need to make up a table of four. U3A money talk
