The City of Cape Town has approved Level 4b water restrictions, effective from July 1, until further notice. All water users are required to immediately use less than 87 litres of water a person a day in total, irrespective of whether you are at home, work or elsewhere.
No watering/irrigation (with municipal drinking water) of flower beds, lawns, vegetables and other plants, sports fields, parks and
other open spaces including golf courses, sports facilities, parks, schools, learning institutions, nurseries, customers involved in agricultural activities, or users with historical gardens etc.
No watering /irrigation of sports fields, or parks by internal City departments except where non-drinking water is used. When non- drinking water is used, it will need to be upon agreement of days and times with the Water and Sanitation Department.
Facilities or customers making use of borehole water, treated effluent water, spring water or wellpoints are encouraged not to water/irrigate within seven days after rainfall that provided adequate saturation.
All boreholes and wellpoints must be registered with the City and must display the official City of Cape Town signage clearly visible from a public thoroughfare.
Use of treated effluent/greywater/rainwater/other non-drinking water for toilet flushing is encouraged.
Borehole/wellpoint water must be used efficiently to avoid wastage and evaporation. Borehole/wellpoint water users are strongly encouraged to irrigate on Tuesdays and Saturdays for only one hour before 9am and after 6pm.
All properties where alternative, non-drinking water resources are used (including rainwater harvesting, greywater re-use, treated effluent water and spring water) must display signage to this effect clearly visible from a public thoroughfare.
No washing or hosing down of hard-surfaced or paved areas with municipal drinking water allowed. (Users, such as abattoirs, food processing industries, care facilities, animal shelters and other industries or facilities with special needs (health/safety related only) must apply to the Director: Water and Sanitation for exemption.
Using municipal drinking water for ornamental water fountains or water features is prohibited.

No washing of vehicles or boats, using municipal drinking water. Vehicles and boats must be washed with non-drinking water or waterless products.
Customers are strongly encouraged to install water efficient parts, fittings and technologies to minimise water use at all taps, showerheads and other plumbing components.
No topping up (manual/automatic) of swimming pools is allowed, even if fitted with a pool cover.
The use of portable or any temporary play pools is prohibited.
Water pressure may be reduced to below applicable regulations or standards requirements to limit water leaks and such may cause intermittent water supply.
