The Somerset College Grade 4s had an interesting outing to the Somerset West Village Garden recently, where they learned about seed growing; the importance of recycling and compost; as well as exploring what the gardens have to offer, and learning about the plants. The children also learned how to make their own compost and made their very own “seed bombs” to take home. This outing is related to the topic that the Grade 4s have been exploring in ESTEAM (entrepreneurship, science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) this term, namely sustainable farming. The outing was exciting and hands-on and was thoroughly enjoyed by both staff and children. Each Grade 4 family sent a jar of peanut butter as a donation to the garden.
