The Helderberg U3A’s penultimate general meeting for 2017 will take place at Strand Town Hall on Wednesday October 4, at 10am.
Doors open at 9.30am, when tea and coffee will be served.
The guest speaker, Mary Ovenstone, is an American and Canadian-trained counsellor, an executive and leadership coach and mentor, an international workshop presenter and public speaker, author and frequent guest in the media.
As well as coaching business leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs and teams, Mary has counselled and coached couples since 1995 alongside her own corporate career in corporate communications.
She returned to South Africa in 1999 where she now runs a counselling and coaching practice for couples and individuals in Cape Town.
Mary’s presentation is titled Magical Otherness: The Differences between the Male and the Female Brain.
She has had a life-long fascination with what she calls the “magical otherness” of men and women.
Throughout her career coaching and counselling individuals, couples and workplace teams, and especially in raising her son and daughter, it became obvious to her that there are significant differences in how men and women think, process emotions and relate.
Her interest has been in going beyond time-worn gender stereotypes in order to understand and articulate the actual differences between men and women.
This led to seven years of research into men and women’s neurobiological as well as psychological variances and how they show up differently in their personal relationships as well as in the workplace.
Her findings were documented in her thesis for an MPhil in management coaching at the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB), which she received in 2014.
Entry for guests costs R20.
