The August meeting of Helderberg U3A will be on Wednesday August 10, at 10am at the Strand Town Hall. The guest speaker will be Pieter van Oudtshoorn whose interest in travel, indigenous peoples and birds has taken him and his wife Sue, pictured above, to many interesting and out of the way destinations. His presentation will be about a road-trip he and Sue undertook from the very top of northern Alaska to the Southern-most tip of South America. Pieter worked in the agricultural chemical deciduous fruit industry, and was stationed in the Elgin and Grabouw area. As a young man his interest in the martial arts took him to Japan. He’d always, however, had a great interest in South and Central America – and with Sue visited the area on a few occasions. The doors will open at 9.30am, when tea and coffee will be available.
Guests are welcome at R20 entry. Booking is not necessary. For more information call Brodwyn at 083 604 0784.
