Trail runners and MTB enthusiasts can gear up for upcoming events at Muratie wine farm in Stellenbosch.
On Saturday July 23, the eighth Mid-Year Trail Run will take place as part of the Sportsmans Warehouse Trail Run series by Dirtopia, with lots of beautiful green single track sections in the forest on Muratie wine farm’s trail network.
According to Dirtopia, trail designer Meurant Botha has two route options planned where both the 11km and 6km distances include forest trails, wine land views and vineyard sections.
Dirtopia Trail Centre offers the start/finish location with shower facilities and trail essentials in the shop, while runners that have pre-entered will receive a PVM energy bar/gel at registration.
There will be a refreshment station on route and at the finish line, where runners can also collect the finishers medal. Prizes for the winners and lucky draws include Sportsmans Warehouse vouchers with a total value of R2000, FALKE socks and Muratie’s wines.

On the MTB front there will be the Muratie Mountain Series for intermediate to advanced mountain bikers. Riders must make sure to enter for the series as soon as possible, as only pre-entries are taken for this limited event that takes place on Sunday July 30.
Those interested in entering must enjoy riding single track, as 40km of the total 52km route have Dirtopia’s signature trail riding. Although there will be bail-out options, riders need to be fit to cover 1550m of climbing if they would like to ride trails that are not normally open to public.
This opportunity showcases Mr Botha’s decades of trail building in this area and he always has new sections that most riders have never had rode on.
The entry fee includes a bottle of Muratie red wine, a “buff”/headgear from the farm, a coffee on arrival, well stocked refreshment stations, finishers medal and a glass of wine when participants wait for the prize giving and lucky draw.
There will also be live music by the local Dennis brothers; shower facilities and a bike wash service. A timing tag is included for live results by TrailTag.
Ebikes have their own category too, while the first rider in the Masters (50+ age) category is rewarded with a product hamper. Overall analogue winners that have completed the full route and cross the line in first place (male and female), can compete for cash prizes.
