Tokara, the family owned Stellenbosch wine and olive estate, has struck American gold for the second consecutive year at the 2023 Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition.
The only South African extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) to bring home a gold medal, the Tokara Multi Varietal outshone contenders from all the major olive oil producing countries in its category.
The California-based international competition now in its 24th year, received 465 entries from 172 producers across the globe including Africa, the Americas, Italy, France, Greece, Spain, Israel, Turkey and Australia.
Tokara enjoys recognition as one of the country’s top EVOO producers after embarking on its olive oil journey in 2000 with primarily Tuscan varieties.
Today, Tokara produces four cold pressed EVOOs – two single varietal oils and two more intense multi-varietal blends – spanning the complete olive oil taste spectrum from mild to more robust.
The award-winning Tokara Multi Varietal is a consummate blend of Frantoio, Leccino and Mission olive varieties. It has elegant notes of fresh green olive fruit, wild rocket and butter lettuce with a spicy walnut finish.
