Skye Boshoff recognised her sporting talent in primary school when she was selected for the Interschool’s under-13 team, and received her first gold medal for shot-put.
This was followed by another gold medal at the Western Province Primary Schools’ Athletics Championship.
She then got a silver medal as a member of the Western Cape Primary Scho ol team for shot-put and was awarded with the under-13 Top Girl Athlete’ trophy at De Hoop Primary in 2013.
Her high school sporting achievements timeline started with the Interhouse shot-put records she broke for four consecutive years, and she also broke the Parel Vallei Interhouse hammer throw record in 2017.
She then went on to break the Interschools’ hammer throw record for two consecutive years: under-15 and under-17 in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
Furthermore, she broke the Interschools’ shot-put record: under-14 and under-17 in 2014, 2016 and 2017 (the 2014 record had been standing since 2001).
This all-round athlete achieved gold as a member of the Western Cape Athletics team for hammer throw, and set the Boland under-15 hammer throw record at the South African School Athletics (SASA) championships.
This throw placed her fifth on the under-15 SA top 10 ranking list for hammer throw at Rustenburg in 2015.
At the Interschools’ Athletics meeting in 2016, Skye broke both under-17 hammer throw, and shot-put records, and received the Piet Faasen trophy as best athlete of the day, for the highest points achieved on the Athletics South Africa (ASA) table.
In February this year, she received the “best shot-put athlete:” medal for breaking her own record set at the 2016 Interschools’ Athletics meeting.
Her personal best was the 50.78m hammer throw that she made as a member of the Boland Athletics team a fortnight ago, for which she was selected for the Western Cape Athletics team. This team competed at the SASA championships in Durban this past weekend.
In 2015, 2016 and 2017, she has been the PV first team’s field hockey goalkeeper, and as a member of the Boland under-16B Pro-Series Indoor (PSI) hockey team who won gold at PSI Nationals in Durban, Skye was also named goalkeeper of the tournament.
After successful Boland field hockey trials in 2016, Skye was selected as a goalkeeper for the under-16 Interprovincial IPTA team, which took part at Nationals in Pretoria.
She was the winner of the District Mail/Let’s Play Sport Supersport star award in May 2016, and was a member of the Nassau swim team which won the i nterhouse swimming gala in January this year, and a member of the PV swim team which won the Helderberg Interschools’ gala in March.
She was selected for the Boland Underwater Hockey team, which took part in the SA Junior Interprovincial Underwater Hockey championship and the SA Junior Finswimming gala in Johannesburg.
In March, Skye was selected for the under-19 South Africa Underwater Hockey team, which will represent South Africa at the Underwater Hockey World Championship Games in Tasmania, Australia in July.
Skye hopes to include the Underwater World Championship Games on her timeline of sporting accomplishments (the highest level one can achieve in underwater hockey). In athletics, her next goal is to qualify for the IAAF World u18 championship.
