Sandy Immelman, Masikhule marketing and communication
Thank you for the promoting Masikhule’s Cast On 4 Kids event at Erinvale Hotel, which was fantastic.
The response was so heart-warming, and having members of the community as well as other NPOs supporting us was really special.
The highlight of our day was being joined by Blankets for Blikkiesdorp, a group of ladies who knit in Delft for their community (the eldest of whom was Aunty Rebecca, who is 90).
They read about our Cast On 4 Kids in the Bolander and contacted me to ask if they could join us for Mandela Day.
Twenty of them came through, and knitted, crocheted and chatted with us, and had tea and cake (all sponsored by Erinvale Hotel and Spa), and then handed over heaps of their beautiful, warm handiwork.
There was a constant stream of frenetic knitters and fabulous donors.
We were visited by some lovely women from Altena Retirement Village, who dropped off a magnificent blanket that they had been working on for six months.
Mini Miss South Africa 2017 donated books and a box of booties, and Helderberg Hospice gave a lovely gift hamper.
The wonderfully generous donations will be distributed to some of the 30 Early Childhood Centres that Masikhule mentors in the marginalised communities of the Helderberg.
Many little warm heads, hands and hearts thank the kindness of the community.
