Justin Smith will be the speaker at the Helderberg U3A meeting on Wednesday July 3, at 10am. A chance encounter with a pack of wild dogs during a family trip to Zululand was the beginning of a love of nature, which eventually led Justin to WWF (Worldwide Fund for Nature). In 1968, Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands (then president of the World Wildlife Fund) approached businessman and conservationist Dr Anton Rupert, to work towards securing South Africa’s wildlife and nature. Last year that approach was celebrated when WWF South Africa celebrated 50 years of environmental achievements and impact. Justin’s presentation is titled “Celebrating 50 years of WWF South Africa: What are some of our highlights and learnings? How do we stay relevant to all South African’s in a country facing many environmental and social challenges? What are some of the exciting projects and initiatives we’re working on today?” Justin holds a B Comm Law; LLB degree; B Comm Honours in Financial Management (all cum Laude from the University of Pretoria) and LLM from UNISA in Environmental Law, International Economic Law, and International law. He grew up in Durban, and aside from his passion for the outdoors, he is a triathlete and a tennis player. The doors will open at 9.30am when tea and coffee will be available. Booking is not necessary, and for more information contact Brodwyn at 083 604 0784.
