The Afrikaans Language Museum and Monument (ATM)will host a full moon picnic on Saturday November 16, on the Paarl Mountain.
The ATM in a press release, invites guests to come to the event any time between 5pm and 10pm, and also join in on a free guided tour of the monument at 6.30pm.
Moreover, in addition to the full moon picnic and spectacular views of the moon, there will be outdoor games and playgrounds for children and safe parking will ensure that there are no parking headaches.
In support of the Centre for Astronomical Heritage’s project to promote indigenous names for full moons in Southern Africa, according to the ATM, this picnic is dedicated to the Milk Moon, referring to the fact that dairy has always been an important source of protein for, among others, the Khoekhoen.
Guests are welcome to bring their own picnics and drinks (no glass) or to order picnic baskets in advance at the bistro, Die Suikerkan at 082 216 2510 or info@diesuikerkan.co.za
Refreshments will also be sold at the bistro during the event.
Picnic-goers are encouraged to dress warmly and bring a torch. The picnic series is in aid of Let’s Read!, the ATM’s literacy project for children, and guests can bring new or second-hand children’s books to donate to this cause.
Tickets are R40 per adult, R10 for SA students, pensioners and children under 18, and FREE for children under 6 years as well as holders of annual permits. They are available online at quicket.co.za or at the gate.
