Two suspects were arrested in Somerset West on Wednesday January 10, after a member of the public alerted a Fidelity ADT response officer to two suspicious individuals – resulting in the prevention of a possible break-in.
Following the tip-off by a member of the public, Reaction Officer Selwyn Steer who was on patrol in the area, arrived at the premises on Parel Vallei Road to find that the driveway gate had been tampered with.
“Our reaction officer noticed that the driveway gate had been pulled off the rails and immediately further inspected the property for a sign of the suspects,” says Fidelity ADT’s Cape Town North district manager, Verena Hulme.
After further investigation, Steer discovered the two suspects hiding on the property and apprehended them before the police arrived at the scene and took the suspects into custody.
Hulme advises residents to check their gates regularly and ensure that perimeters aren’t easy hiding places for criminals. “We suggest keeping bushes and trees cut back from the perimeter of the property and check that security beams are positioned at the most optimal angle to increase their range and effectiveness,” she says.
Ms Hulme adds, “Well done to our response officer, the member of the public who noticed the suspects and the quick response from SAPS – this is a great example of how incidents of crime can be intercepted through cohesive working together.”
