The Somerset West Unitarian Fellowship is meeting at 10.30am, in the “chapel” of Vonke House, on Sunday May 7. The speaker is Andy Loughton of the Helderberg Street People Centre (HSPC), pictured right. His topic is “Managing First Steps”. Andy says that his involvement with people living on the streets started about 10 years ago when he became aware of street people for the first time. This involvement has lead to Busy Corner Street Church every Sunday. Over the years, he has come to understand the difficulties and life obstacles encountered by people living on the margins of society. In addition, Andy says, there is a greater need to understand how the community can engage with street people as part of solution building. After the talk there will be an opportunity to ask questions and refreshments will be available. Entry is free, but donations can be made to help support Andy’s work.
