On Friday June 10, history was made with the launch of the first Street Store in the Winelands.
An initiative by the Somerset West Night Shelter and ActionCOACH Southern Africa, the store presented an opportunity for local homeless people to browse through the items at the pop-up store outside the premises of the Somerset West Night Shelter.
Local residents and business owners had the opportunity to donate clothes and shoes towards the initiative, which were then hung up and displayed at the Somerset West Night Shelter, in Church Street.
This was where the needy could come and “shop” and help themselves. Locals in need could obtain essential winter clothing items, with a variety of tops, scarves, shoes and socks on display for both adults and children.
